SmileBird — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 2026-10-10
Last updated: 2026-10-10
SmileBird (“the app”) is built and operated by an independent developer (“we”, “us”). This policy explains how the app handles your data. It applies to the SmileBird app distributed through the Apple App Store.
Summary
- The camera never records. Your face is analysed live, on your device, and immediately discarded. Face data never leaves your device.
- No account. We do not collect your name, email or any contact details.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob. Google may collect device identifiers, advertising data, coarse location and ad interaction data to show and measure ads, as described below.
The camera
SmileBird asks for camera access so you can flap by smiling or winking. When you allow it:
- The front camera runs Apple’s on-device face tracking (ARKit).
- The app reads only a few numbers per frame: how much you are smiling and how closed each eye is.
- Camera images are never saved, displayed, uploaded or shared, and are never given to the ad provider.
- You can deny or revoke camera access any time in Settings → SmileBird → Camera. The game then works with taps.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The app shows a banner on the start and game-over screens and an occasional full-screen ad between runs. Ads are provided by Google AdMob, which may collect and process:
- Device identifiers, including the advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking
- Advertising data, such as which ads were shown and tapped
- Coarse location derived from your IP address
- Product interaction data related to ads
Google uses this data to serve, personalise and measure ads and to prevent fraud. It is not linked to your identity by us, and we do not receive it in a form that identifies you.
Your choices:
- The app asks for permission before tracking (App Tracking Transparency). If you decline, ads are not personalised with your advertising identifier. You can change this any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, a Google consent form asks for your choices before any ads load. You can change them later from Privacy choices in the app’s settings (gear button).
See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Data stored on your device
The app keeps these on your device only, in its own storage:
- Your best score.
- Your sound setting.
- Your face calibration: five numbers describing your resting and maximum smile and eye-closing levels, used to tune the controls to your face. It contains no image and cannot identify you.
Deleting the app deletes all of it. None of it is sent to us or anyone else.
Apple’s “App Privacy” label
The App Store listing declares the data Google AdMob may collect (device ID, advertising data, product interaction and coarse location) as used for third-party advertising and not linked to your identity.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them. Face data never leaves the device.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, we will update the “Last updated” date above.
